A few days ago, iconic rapper Jay-Z announced the sale of his streaming platform Tidal to Jack Dorsey’s Company Square in a grand $297 million deal which boosted the rapper’s billionaire net worth by 40%. The rap mogul who bought the company back in 2015 brought on board the likes of Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Lil Wayne, J. Cole, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Arcade Fire’s Win Butler, and Régine Chassagne, Rihanna, Jack White, Daft Punk, and others.
In the same light, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland followed by announcing the sale of their ‘Verzuz’ platform to Triller in exchange for becoming “large shareholders” in the Triller network. ‘Verzuz’ battles started during the lockdown era two artists battled by playing their greatest record, at the end, the winner was not announced as Swizz and Timberland claim its just for fun.
While many have applauded the moves by Jay-Z, Swizz Beatz & Timbaland, tagging them as great business moves, some people are not too happy with them, one of such persons is power star Michael Rainey Jr. who recently tagged them ‘sellouts’ for using the term ‘black owned’ to attract trust from the black community then, in turn, sell to white owners.
“Sellouts,” Rainey wrote on his Whereis22 Instagram account. “Can’t ever jus have something of our own it’s always bout the money. Cool move but these n***** still sellouts.”
Rainey maintained the same energy for Jay-Z by later posting in his Instagram Story, “N I feel the same way about Jay Z selling Tidal so don’t come to me wit that argument!!”
